Our first review from overseas is finally here…

Introducing Wakuli Coffee, a speciality coffee bar based in Amsterdam.

Wakuli buy their coffee beans directly from farmers to ensure they are paid fairly for growing their delicious beans ☕

“Every year, about 200 billion US dollars are earned worldwide from coffee, of which about 8% is the income of coffee farmers. The price of coffee is determined on the New York Stock Exchange and is strongly influenced by the coffee giants who buy their beans for the lowest possible price through large trading houses and middlemen.”

Wakuli spicy robusta

I received their “spicy robusta” as a gift and the flavour is really interesting.

Don’t let the spicy name put you off, there’s a smooth chocolatey flavour throughout the cup (somewhere near 58% cacao would be my guess). That’s paired with a creaminess that reminds me of cashew nuts. I’d compare this to your favourite chocolate bar rather than a ghost pepper but the games the game. 🌶️

While I didn’t get much of the red berries on my first cup, it’s definitely a tasty morning treat. I’d rate this around the 16/20 mark.

If you are ever in Amsterdam I’d recommend checking their coffee bar out for more unique flavours.
