Mini art gallery with tasty coffee.

Fruitmarket Gallery

We are on the hunt for the best coffee shop in Edinburgh and Fruitmarket Gallery makes a really tasty cup.

Located on Market Street, just outside Edinburgh Waverly, the building housed Edinburgh’s fruit and vegetable market from the 1930s up until 1974 when it was repurposed as a gallery to showcase local art.

Today there is still a small gallery inside as well as a gift shop and cafe with huge floor to ceiling windows it’s the perfect spot to enjoy the bustle of  Edinburgh’s busy Market street.

Fruitmarket Cafe from Market Street

I tasted one of their apricot tarts which was deliciously sweet and tart tasting. I paired this with a long black which was strong and fruity living up to the fruit market name.

I’d recommend grabbing a seat by the window if you can. We sat over towards the wall, where there’s a mirror that runs the entire length of the gallery which is at perfect eye level when seated – it was pretty distracting with the hustle and bustle of art and cafe goers behind.

If you enjoyed this then please check out the rest of our blog where we review coffee shops, bakeries and cafes across Scotland. We are on the hunt to find the best Americano across the country…
